#MotivationMonday: “A beautiful day begins with a beautiful mindset. When you wake up, take a second to think about what a privilege it is to simply be alive. The moment you start acting like life is a blessing, it will start to feel like one.”
My boss’s daughter has lymphoma. She’s 16. Being a teenager is hard enough. To have to deal with tumors, too? It’s a terrible thing. She has shown tremendous strength and courage these last several months though, and has been an inspiration.
We wanted to show our support and let her know that we’re pulling for her.
So last week started with a photo session in our studio. The team wore matching purple shirts that say “OPA for Catherine,” and we got some great shots. We gave her the photos, along with a shirt. Hopefully they make her smile.

MCM Training – Week 5
The rest of the week focused on running. I didn’t hit 34 miles like I was supposed to, but I did get some strong runs in, including a 14-mile long run on the C&O Canal Towpath on Saturday. It left me exhausted. I took a two-hour nap afterward, and probably could have slept for a couple more. I did 30 minutes of yoga at home for cross-training on Monday. I really need to step up my cross-training. Co-worker Erin suggested I try spinning and lifting weights. I’m considering both (my weak arms could use some help).
Monday, July 20 – Yoga (30 minutes at home)
Tuesday, July 21 – 4 miles – treadmill (AM)
Wednesday, July 22 – 7 miles – treadmill (PM)
Thursday, July 23 – 6 miles – treadmill (PM)
Friday, July 24 – off
Saturday, July 25 – 14 miles – C&O towpath
Sunday, July 26 – off
Total: 31 miles
Cross-training: yoga
After the long run and nap on Saturday, my cousin, her husband and I went to dinner and then to the Lincoln Theatre to see South African comedian Trevor Noah. Have you heard of him? He’s Jon Stewart’s successor for The Daily Show. He’s hilarious. And cute.

Sunday too-much-Funday started with my friend’s baby’s 100-day party, followed by brunch at Del Campo. They have an awesome bottomless mimosa and Bloody Mary brunch. Worth checking out if you’ve never been. (bottomless anything is dangerous though)

Goals for this week: Stretch more. Way more.
I’ve never been to Del Campo – looks good! My friends and I going to try to get a table at Mike Isabella’s Pepita this weekend. Sorry to hear about your co-workers daughter – can’t imagine how she/parents feel. Let me know if you want to go spinning down here! I’ll join you.
Thanks, we hear she’s in good hands and is doing well. 🙂 Ooo Pepita! You’ll have to let me know how you guys like it. And yes, will definitely let you know if I try spinning somewhere in DC!
