I was on the fence about whether or not to post weekly updates for Marine Corps Marathon training.
My main concern is keeping up with the updates. If you’re regular reader here, you may know that I don’t really post that often. I’m working on that though! Blogging more is one of my goals this year. Maybe that’s what I need… something like weekly updates to keep me on a blog-writing schedule, and to also hold me accountable in sticking to the training plan.
So, here you go.
MCM training – Week 1:
Monday, June 22 – 4 miles – treadmill
Tuesday, June 23 – 6 miles – treadmill
Wednesday, June 24 – rest day
Thursday, June 25 – 4 miles – treadmill
Friday, June 26 – 8 miles – treadmill
Saturday, June 27 – off
Sunday, June 28 – off
Total = 22 miles
I had to modify this first week of training a bit because I spent the weekend at Lake Anna in Virginia with cousins and family friends. I knew I was going to be out of town, so I tried to squeeze all of my runs in during the week, with the long run being Friday morning (before I left town). It worked out ok. I should have done the long run outside instead of on the treadmill, but I didn’t feel like suffering through the humidity.
For cross-training, I was planning on going paddleboarding at Lake Anna, but it rained almost the entire time we were there. It was kind of a bummer. There was a short window where the rain subsided, and I considered getting in a quick 1-2 mile run, but opted for drinking beer on the deck instead (ohh well).
Despite the rain and missing out on all of the water activities I had planned, it was still a fun weekend. It’s always good times with the cousins. Some photos below, courtesy of cousin Stephanie. Surprisingly, I hardly took any photos myself this weekend.

I am ready for week 2. Hopefully I’ll get at least one run outside this week. I also need to start foam rolling a little more, and spend more time stretching after my runs.
Have a great Monday!
You had a great week 1! There have been a few times where I wanted to get my long run in on Friday morning (or evening) to have the weekend “free” ..but hasn’t happened.. YET haha. Enjoying the first update! Looks like you guys had a good time at Lake Anna – I’ve never been.
Thanks, Jen! It was nice getting the long run done on a Friday. Probably wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t have off work though. You should check out Lake Anna. It’s only 1.5-2 hrs away – a lot of water activities and hiking trails!
